It's Fair Week!

I love fairs. This week I'll post photos from the Lycoming County Fair.

Last night was the Double Figure 8 Derby. It's a little different from a demolition derby in that there is more driving skill involved.

The cars have to be modified for safety reasons. Most driver gut the interior. Also, doors are chained shut, the hood and trunk secured and padding is added:

Last minute preparations are common:

Once the car is ready it's time to shoot the breeze with the other drivers and the pit crew:

Once the green flag drops it's race time:

Of course occasionally things go awry:

Some drivers are able to drive back to the pit area with their trophy

Others have gotten everything out of their car and walk back. The walk has it's own rewards:
